Abstract: What is the reason for gender discrepancy in reporting lifetime sex partners (SPs) when people are asked for the number of SPs they have had? Based on the idea of the sexual double standard, men might over-report while women might under-report the number of SPs. The purpose of this study was to identify whether this gender discrepancy could be explained by the sexual double standard or not. Late adolescents were asked to report the number of their lifetime SPs and to assess how they perceive sexual behaviors of an imaginary peer who reports a large number of SPs. Data were collected through a one-to-one interview sessions (over 90% of the sample). The lifetime number of SPs for men was almost 6 times higher than that for women. Men showed more envious attitudes and assessed the peer’s report as less factual when the peer man had more SPs. Women were not willing to accept the man as their prospective partner if he had many SPs. Also, the sexual behavior of the peer woman with many SPs was deemed undesirable by women. The findings imply that men might inflate their reports of the number of lifetime SPs, supporting the old sexual double standard. The findings also imply that women might under-report their lifetime SPs, and seemed to be somewhat ambivalent about the topic of the sexual double standard.

Abstract: Information is a crucial ingredient for political participation. A lack of relevant, accurate and timely information may lead to poor or non-participation in the political process. Women in Nigeria are known for their low level participation in politics. Demographically they are more than men but their number fails to be translated to political strength. Recent survey shows that women constitute majority of voters but score very minimal success in political gains. They occupy very scanty leadership positions and are grossly underrepresented in the strategic height of politics. Women are also checked by cultural and traditional definitions. This paper concludes that lack of relevant information is responsible for this unwholesome state of their political position being so highly circumscribed. The paper recommends development of policies and intervention strategies that will improve the political information environment of women bringing about a more inclusive representative governance with implication for sustainable structural change leading to the generation of a more participative society.

Abstract: The purpose of the present study is to compare the profiles of perceived self-efficacy in teamwork and entrepreneurship between Engineering and Social Sciences university students. The total sample consists of 1,181 participants; 592 from the Engineering field and 589 from the Social Sciences programs, with an average age of 18.43 years (SD = 0.95) and 18.38 years (SD = 0.86) respectively. A quantitative approach with a descriptive and transversal survey design was used. All the participants completed the Self-efficacy Teamwork and Entrepreneurship Scale. The results of the one-way multivariate analysis of variance, followed by the one-way univariate analysis of variance, showed that the Social Sciences students reported statistically significant (p < .05)better perceived self-efficacy, desired self-efficacy and reachable self-efficacy in teamwork than the Engineering participants. Regarding the entrepreneurship factor, the Social Sciences students reported statistically significant greater desired and reachable self-efficacy than their Engineering counterparts (p < .05). However, for all the other variables, statistically significant differences were not found (p> .05).

Abstract: This study aimed to examine social media addiction in a sample of university students. Based on the Internet addiction scale developed by Young (1996) the researcher used cross-sectional survey methodology in which a questionnaire was distributed to 1327 undergraduate students with their consent. Factor analysis of the self-report data showed that social media addiction has three independent dimensions. These dimensions were positively related to the users experience with social media; time spent using social media and satisfaction with them. In addition, social media addiction was a negative predictor of academic performance as measured by a student's GPA. Future studies should consider the cultural values of users and examine the context of social media usage.

Abstract: Emotional intelligence (EI) is based on the concept of understanding one’s own emotion and the emotions of others. Aggression is often categorized by hurtful and destructive behavior towards others; it seems to oppose the empathetic nature of EI. In this study the objective was to study the role of emotional intelligence on adolescents’ aggression and also a gender difference in emotional intelligence and aggression of adolescents. The aggression scale developed by Buss & Perry, in the year 1992 was used to measure aggression and the emotional intelligence scale developed by Anukool Hyde & Sanjyo Pathe & Upinder Dhar, in the year 1971 was used to measure emotional intelligence of adolescents. Data was collected from 64 adolescents from various Colleges and Universities. It was found that there exists a significant difference between the levels of emotional intelligences (HEI, MEI & LEI) on aggression of adolescent girls as compared to adolescent boys. Boys were found to be more aggressive where as girls were found to be more emotionally intelligent. For boys emotional intelligence does not influence the level of aggression. There could be some other factors (peer pressure, media violence, and influence of drug) which play an important role in the development of aggression.
